Deer-Motorcycle Collisions: A Rising Threat on US Roads
Millions of Insurance Claims, Thousands of Crashes
In the United States, insurance companies handle a staggering 18 million animal collision claims annually, with deer-related crashes accounting for a significant portion. This alarming statistic highlights the growing problem of deer-motorcycle collisions, particularly in areas with high deer populations and increasing urbanization.
A Deadly Encounter
In 2021, Wisconsin alone recorded 16,204 deer-related crashes. Behind other vehicles and fixed objects, deer pose the greatest threat to drivers, accounting for nearly five times more motorcycle fatalities than collisions with other motorcycles during the 2002-2012 period.
