Gophers Volleyball Pulls Off Unbelievable Win Over No. 1 Texas

Upset of the Year: Gophers Take Down Texas

Gophers volleyball made history on Saturday, September 17th, when they defeated the No. 1 ranked Texas Longhorns in five sets. The Gophers won the match with set scores of 25-23, 25-21, 22-25, 20-25, 15-9.

Gophers Dominate Early, Win First Two Sets

The Gophers came out firing on all cylinders, winning the first two sets of the match. They hit .350 in the first set and .364 in the second set, while holding Texas to a .222 hitting percentage.

The Gophers were able to control the tempo of the match in the first two sets. They forced Texas into a number of errors and were able to keep the Longhorns out of system.

Texas Rallies to Win Third and Fourth Sets

Texas showed their championship pedigree in the third and fourth sets, winning both sets to force a fifth set.

The Longhorns hit .375 in the third set and .333 in the fourth set, while the Gophers hit just .250 and .188, respectively.

Texas was able to take control of the match in the third and fourth sets by serving aggressively and putting pressure on the Gophers' serve receive.

Gophers Win Decisive Fifth Set

The Gophers regrouped in the fifth set and played their best volleyball of the match. They hit .500 in the fifth set, while holding Texas to a .111 hitting percentage.

The Gophers were able to close out the match by serving tough and putting pressure on the Texas hitters.

This was a huge win for the Gophers, who are now 6-1 on the season. It was also a big win for the Big Ten Conference, as it was the first time a Big Ten team had defeated a No. 1 ranked team since 2017.
